Verbs

Verbs play an important role in any language and in English they are quite easy (if compared to the ones in Portuguese, for example!).

It is well to remember some peculiarities, such as:

::. The use of the auxiliaries 'do' (present) and 'did' (past) in negative and interrogative sentences;
e.g.: I eat chocolate. (affirmative sentence)
       I don't eat chocolate. (negative sentence)
      Do you eat chocolate. (interrogative sentence)

::. The use of  'will' to form sentences in the future;
e.g.: I eat chocolate. (affirmative sentence, simple present)
       I will eat chocolate. (affirmative sentence, future)
       I don't eat chocolate. (negative sentence, simple present)
       I won't eat chocolate. (negative sentence, future)

::. The way of forming the past of regular verbs - add 'ed' to the verb;
e.g.: To finish - finished
       To love - loved
       To play - played

::. Irregular verbs have their own simple past and past participle forms;
e.g.: to eat - ate - eaten
       to sleep - slept - slept
       to be - was/were - been

::. The past perfect is formed by have + past participle;
e.g.: I have been to London.
       He has drunk a lot.
